Stacey Conridge

From direct painting to the more expressive forms of art,
oil painting provides me with a luxurious vehicle to explore, express and experience my life and environment.

Whatever I am painting or drawing, whether it is the human figure, a still life, or painting landscapes plein air, creating my art transports me daily into the sublime. I feel I am taken on an adventure, as challenging as I'd like to make it.

About Stacey

My formal art training can be compared to a traditional apprenticeship from the Studios of the early European painters. My tutor and mentor for over 20 years is the recognised Australian artist John Beeman. After spending many hours in John's studio I have gained a firm foundation in traditional methods, materials and techniques that had their origins with artists like Van Dyke, Rembrandt and Vermeer. In keeping with these time-honoured methods I make my own rabbit skin gesso panels and only use quality paints and pigments in my works.

I live with my husband David on our bush block - on Woodford Island in the Clarence River near Maclean, New South Wales - where we enjoy building a native garden to encourage the local wildlife.

Reviews

ABC North Coast resident arts reviewer Jeanti St Clair had this to say about Stacey's work in a review of paintings from the 2012 NSW Northern Rivers Portrait Prize ".....to Stacey Conridge's painting of guitarist Michael Hatgis, there is a definite fondness in the treatment in many of the subjects. Conridge even brings some of the richness of Italian Renaissance - in her use of oil paints to create light and shade - without the ornateness. Again, simple works."

In her review of the 2013 Northern Rivers Portrait Prize Ms St Clair said this "Among other standouts is Stacey Conridge's almost sombre portrait of John Beeman, which pays tribute to Beeman's classical training as an artist by using the same Renaissance-painting techniques he learnt."

This 2022 internet review decribes Stacey's work as... "Traditional and contemporary oil painting by emerging Australian Stacey Conridge, a modern interpretation of the techniques and methods of the European painters of the Dutch Golden Age of painting makes these paintings visually exciting, valuable and collectable"
