Studio

In the studio

Stacey paints at home in the Clarence Valley, in a studio full of easels, drawings, plants and paintings under way. She works in oil on gesso panel, often with several paintings on the go at once.

Varnishing

Finished paintings are varnished, then laid out to dry before they go to the framer.

The Sketch House, Yulgilbar

The Sketch House is a small, historic stone rotunda on a ridge above the Clarence River at Yulgilbar Station, Baryulgil. Tom Roberts stayed at Yulgilbar in 1894–95, commissioned to record the family and life of the estate, and the station’s owners say he painted from the Sketch House.

Stacey painted there in 2016 and 2019 at Art in the Paddock, when the Friends of the Gallery took a small group of artists up to paint for the day. The work was auctioned later that day to raise funds for the Friends.
